Hello my fellow readers,
Finally, spring has sprung in New York City! The sun is shining, it is getting warmer, and most of the flowers are in full bloom. But, due to climate change, the weather is serving two sides of itself: the usual, warm and sunny, appropriate-for-spring side, and the cold, windy, grey side. Yet, often times the two sides collide, resulting in a warm and windy climate, which allows for some experimentation within my closet.
On a warm and windy day, it is nice to have a cover-up that won’t cause you to catch a cold yet, won’t be too warm that there will be a need to take it off and carry it around. A vest, especially a faux-fur vest, is the perfect solution to the two; just as the weather is sometimes, a fur vest is a warm hug that prevents the suffocating part of the hug.
The faux-fur vest that I am referring to was once featured on my blog. In a post titled, “Girl Boss,” I paired the vest with two basic closet staples: a white button-up and a pair of black jeans. The outfit was pretty simple yet, it stood out due to the vest being a statement piece. However, I prefer to switch things up, and creating new outfits that include old pieces.
I have never thought I would own another denim skirt after I donated my previous one when I was 13. Yet, here I am, wearing a denim skirt that is actually true to my style. I like feminine pieces, but often times, I prefer to mix them with clothes that have a masculine kick. A denim skirt has always been on a more feminine side, especially the skirt that I’ve purchased. It adds to the dictionary definition of feminine due to its A-line cut and a denim belt in the center. Although most jean skirts are cut as pencil skirts, this denim skirt quickly became my favorite due to its sundry cut and fit.
A black turtleneck is another closet staple of mine because of its versatility. Whether I would like for the turtleneck to appear in a more “serious” outfit, worn with black trousers, or play the item up by adding a colorful skirt or a fur jacket, a turtleneck is a simple piece that could be thrown on without any hassle. It is fitting for any body type, and could be styled in the ways your heart desires.
All together, the pieces create an outfit that is simple and chic, but doesn’t combine items that could cause potential discomfort, or make it less casual. It is casual, it is modern, and it is chic, hence the title of the post.
Although I never thought I would repurchase a denim skirt, or go out of my comfort zone by combining more than two colors in one outfit (yes, I am usually too hesitant to do that), the saying “never say never” could never have been more appropriate. Therefore, take risks, big or small, and dress the way you feel.
