Fashion Caption’s Recap: 2016

Hello my fellow readers,

Ahhh, it’s that time of the year again where numerous individuals around the world prepare to turn the page and start with a clean slate. New year, new beginnings, new dreams and hopes add on to the established excitement around the holidays, leading to an upbeat mood and a positive attitude. However, the end of the year is not just about moving on and starting fresh; it is also about reflecting on the past and remembering all of the memories that have happened this year.

As I was browsing social media one lonely night, I’ve stumbled upon numerous posts about how 2016 was the worst year. Yes, there was a series of unfortunate events around the world and in other people’s lives, however, there were also events that have uplifted people’s spirits and changed their attitudes. In popular culture, Leonardo do Caption has finally won his first Academy Award that was long-awaited by all the fans and followers, and Beyoncé has released a masterpiece-Lemonade-which managed to grasp not only the press’s attention, but also empowered women of color due to its lyrics and poems. On the more upsetting end of the spectrum, legends such as Prince and George Michael passed away, along with the talented mother-daughter duo of Carrie Fischer and Debbie Reynolds, however, the impact left by their work and efforts has been left on Earth and will never be forgotten.

On a more personal note, 2016 was the most stressful year for me, yet the most eventful. I graduated high school and started college; went to prom, which I also wrote about; saw BEYONCÉ perform live and was enlightened; Fashion Caption turned 3; worked the Sherri Hill show in September and went to College Fashion Week. Besides, I’ve turned into a college freshman at a fashion school that I love, and I am thankful for a job that has brought me a load of experience and knowledge.

As one chapter closes, another one opens, and it might seem to be a sad ending, however, it’s a beautiful start. As 2017 knocks on our doors, we are opening not just the door into the new year, but also, into a new beginning in all of our lives. If you haven’t stuck to your New Year’s resolutions last year, here’s your chance to do it over, and do it wiser. With the metaphorical door opening for the new year ahead, open yourselves up as well to new adventures, thoughts, and ideas. With that said, happy New Year, my fellow readers. I love you all, and expect more thrilling content because Fashion Caption never stops.
